In the town of Blithe Hollow, Norman Babcock is a boy who can speak to the dead, but no one besides his eccentric new friend, Neil, believes his ability is real. One day, Norman's estranged eccentric uncle tells him of an important annual ritual he must take up to protect the town from a curse cast by a witch it condemned centuries ago. Eventually, Norman decides to cooperate, but things don't go according to plan. Now, a magic storm of the witch threatens Blithe Hollow as the accursed dead rise. Together with unexpected new companions, Norman struggles to save his town, only to discover the horrific truth of the curse. With that insight, Norman must resolve the crisis for good as only he can.
|nudity||Norman comments on his older sister stashing pictures of a shirtless football player in her underwear. Norman's sister talks about a guy's body, mainly his six-pack abs, while on the phone with a friend. A boy is blocking a bully's way, so the bully says he will punch the other kid "In your boob's". (The smaller kid is mildly fat) A boy pauses an exercise video to look at the instructor's butt. Norman's teen sister ogles at Mitch while he is wearing only a towel. She also pouts when he announces he will be getting dressed. A billboard for a casino is shown and a woman in skimpy garb is shown with dollar bills stuck in her cleavage. Alvin grabs Courtney's buttocks, and Courtney makes a comment. You don't see this. Norman mentions that he's watching sex when describing a zombie movie.|
|violence||Mainly played for laughs. A fair amount of bullying at the beginning of the movie. Norman is ignored or abused because he can see dead people and other's think he is crazy Blithe Hollow's zombified residents look a little worse for wear and suffer a number of physical humiliations. They're clearly rotting, and one drops an ear. An extended gag involves Norman struggling to retrieve a book from a man's freshly dead corpse. Others zombies lose arms or are shot through the guts during battles with the living. (Nothing Graphic) We can see straight through one zombie's abdomen. And another loses his head, literally, when hit by a car. Their dead appendages are still quite active, naturally. This is done more comically than gory. A zombie runs into a door and gets her teeth stuck. A zombie's face seems to be sagging off his jawbone rather grotesquely. Villagers assault zombies with all sorts of makeshift weapons and try to burn down city hall, with living people inside. A witch's powers are quite frightening and dangerous. She causes wooden thorns to spike from the ground, nearly impaling Norman, and hurls painful bolts of magical energy at him. Norman mentions that he's watching violence when describing a zombie movie. Keep in mind it's animated so detail is limited.|
|profanity||One use of "jackass" and the word "pissing" is use in a comical, non-intentional way. Crude humor through-out, including a lot of nose picking and rude jokes.|
|frightening||A fair amount of scenes throughout the film which ,though played for laughs, can be disturbing to young viewers. The climax of the film involving the witch can frighten younger children. There is a scene in which a 10-year old girl is sentenced to death. Her execution is never depicted, but it is a disturbing concept. Norman speaks to the spirit of a witch asking her to stop punishing her killers. It may be frightening or disturbing for many viewers. MPAA/USA - Rated PG for scary action and images, thematic elements, some rude humor and language. BBFC/UK - Rated PG (mild comic horror, violence, frightening sequences, innuendo).|
