Osbourne Cox, a Balkan expert, resigned from the CIA because of a drinking problem, so he begins a memoir. His wife wants a divorce and expects her lover, Harry, a philandering State Department marshal, to leave his wife. A CD-ROM falls out of a gym bag at a Georgetown fitness center. Two employees there try to turn it into cash: Linda, who wants money for cosmetic surgery, and Chad, an amiable goof. Information on the disc leads them to Osbourne who rejects their sales pitch; then they visit the Russian embassy. To sweeten the pot, they decide they need more of Osbourne's secrets. Meanwhile, Linda's boss likes her, and Harry's wife leaves for a book tour. All roads lead to Osbourne's house.
|nudity||No nudity in this film, but there is a bit of sexual content. There is a three or four second scene of a man and a woman having sex. Not graphic; no noises and no nudity, but there is some thrusting. A character throughout the film considers plastic surgery. She claims a few time that her "ass is too big" or her "boobs are too big" A male character cheats on his wife with another characters wife. After that he starts a relationship with another woman. A dildo is clearly seen as a part a character's invention. You can skip this scene easily. It happens when Frances McDormand's and George Clooney's characters return home after their SECOND date. Skip to the next scene as soon as this happens if you want to skip it. Nothing important happens during it as it's just meant to be comedic, not essential to the plot.|
|violence||A man is shot in the head, with blood spurting onto the wall. You then see another shot of his lifeless body, with parts of his bloodied face visible. This death is surprising, however there is a brief hint that foreshadows it seconds before it happens. A man is punched in the nose. He is seen with a trickle of blood on it for some time. Towards the end of the film, a man is shot in the shoulder. Blood pours out his wound and he throws a stapler at the shooter so he can escape. He runs outside, but the shooter eventually catches him and chops his head open with an axe. His head is seen splitting open from a distance. Very graphic and possibly disturbing.|
|profanity||58 uses of 'fuck', 18 of 'shit', 1 of "screw".|
|alcohol||Several instances of drinking or post-drinking. A major character is told that he has a drinking problem. One or two brief instances of smoking.|
|frightening||There's only about 2 minutes worth of violence in the 95-minute movie, but these brief scenes are unexpected and can be quite disturbing: One man is shot in the head and the other is shot and has his head split open. These are the only two people that try to expose disputable behavior and they are brutally killed. This is upsetting to think about. A man hides out in another's house to investigate something, trying not to get caught. This scene is rather intense. The film is a dark comedy, so even though it has its dark moments, a majority is still funny.|
