nudity The character Francis is a ladybug who often plays in drag, and is mistook for being a female by two flies. This becomes a recurring joke throughout the rest of the film.
violence Hopper grabs Dot by her head and attempts to feed her to a grasshopper. A flea is burnt by a fiery explosion, but he survives and it is played for comedic effect. While a bird is chasing the band of bugs, a rock falls on Francis breaking his leg (he is later seen with a cast), and a second rocks falls on his head knocking him unconscious. Hopper crushes two grasshoppers to death by launching mounds of grains on them as they scream in terror. Grasshoppers reveal they will "squish" the ant queen. A grashopper chases Dot through a field of thistles, and one of the spiky flowers is launched towards him and he squeals. Bugs spread red berry-juice on themselves to trick other bugs into thinking they're mutilated. (Played for laughs). Some bugs pull out Hopper's antenna. A grasshopper hits Flik several times, knocking him to the ground, and he is seen very bruised and beaten. Hopper then smacks Flik and prepares to stomp on him. After a rainstorm interrupts that, Hopper grabs Flik by the neck and starts to strangle him for fooling him with a fake bird, but a real bird comes along, grabs Hopper and feeds him to its babies. Some young bugs draw a mural that portrays a lot of blood (including a severed caterpillar).
profanity Someone name calling for example: Moron
alcohol In a bar that flick enters, it is suggested the customers (who are bugs) are drinking alcoholic beverages, but It seems more as if they are drinking "Bug" drinks. A Bug at the bar orders a "Bloody mary, O positive" (which is actually a drop of blood). He slurps it fast, and acts like he is drunk and passes out.
frightening A skeletal, deformed grasshopper is kept on a leash. His appearance may be frightening to young children, especially when he attempts to eat Dot. The menacing appearance of Hopper and other grasshoppers, along with their meanspirited disposition and treatment of the ants, may be scary or unsettling to younger kids. The first appearance of Dim, protrayed as a raging monster, could be frightening to children. However, the scene ends when he is accidentally hurt and starts crying. Dot, being chased by the grasshoppers, appears to have been thrown to her death. However, she finds that her wings have finally developed enough and she is able to fly to safety. The bird chases may be intense for small children. BBFC - (U): very mild threat.
