The crew of the deep space towing vessel Nostromo are awaken from hypersleep to investigate a strange signal from a nearby planet. While investigating the signal, they discover it was intended as a warning, and not an SOS.
|nudity||One of the cabins contains pornographic magazines and posters. The posters adorn the walls, but they aren't viewed up close and the images aren't seen very clearly. The lead female strips down to just a skimpy t-shirt and undersized panties.|
|violence||The alien shoots its teeth into a man's head. It lifts him up into the air by its teeth. The man screams and blood runs down his forehead (quickly, before the camera cuts away). The alien bursts through a man's chest while he is eating dinner with the rest of the crew (blood spurts in few places, including on some people). This scene is very intense, he begins to choke and then starts squirming around. then he starts having a seizure sort of thing and begins to scream and yell. the alien tries to come out of him a bunch, and succeeds on the third or so try. It looks around, surrounded by blood and some gore (not detailed but there is a lot of blood), while the man's hands twitch and have spasms. The alien attacks a man and pierces his head with its inner jaw (a puddle of blood is shown in the director's cut). A woman is killed off screen (you still hear her scream) A man is attacked by the alien, and you see blood in his mouth as he screams; later, you see the man very briefly with blood dripping from his face, and the bloody dangling foot of the dead woman. A man is hit in the head with a fire extinguisher and white substance comes out of him; he is then hit once more and his head tears off; moments later, we figure out he is a robot; afterwards, the crew asks him questions and at first he answers with sputters and spurts (his blood is white and milky, though). A man cuts a "finger" off of a facehugger and it bleeds acid. Ripley is attacked and beaten severely by a human-like robot or android on-screen (her nose bleeds and she makes disturbing moans as she is being thrown all over the place).|

|frightening||Some scenes are made to make you jump or to be intense or frightening. In one scene an alien surprisingly bursts through a man's chest and blood splatters everywhere, including on people's faces. The scene has been called 'one of the scariest moments in cinema history'. In the scene when Ripley is getting ready for hyper-sleep, she turns around and an alien is hiding in an air duct (very sudden). When Dallas is in the air ducts, the alien screeches when he sees him and reaches out to grab him. The Alien creature is one of the most horrifying monsters in cinema history, not only because of its appearance, but its movements and its behaviour. It is capable of hiding very well in the ship's dark interior and seems to stalk the crew. The overtones of forced pregnancy or even sexual assault may be particularly frightening to some viewers. In the scene with the alien eggs, one egg opens and an alien jumps out and attaches to Kane's face. The scene where Ripley is beaten up by Ash is quite disturbing and pretty violent compared to the rest of the movie. Ash's appearance when he himself is beaten may also be frightening -- he is leaking a great deal of milky fluid and his inner workings are spilling out, including a lot of unidentified substances, eerie-looking tubing and something that looks like human intestines. He begins to malfunction and thrash violently, making a shrill electronic keening sound; his head is broken off and Ripley probes at it with a small electrical probe to bring it back to "life".
